3 Days in Coolum: The best craft breweries on the Sunshine Coast

If you’re a craft beer connoisseur or just like to throw back a few coldies, you’re in luck.

The Sunshine Coast could justifiably lay claim to the title of “Craft Brewery Capital of Queensland” with almost 20 microbreweries operating within the region.

And in Coolum, you’re within easy reach of the small towns, industrial estates and picturesque locations from Noosa to Bribie Island and into the hinterland where these craft breweries have become tourist attractions in their own right.

Each brewery serves a diverse range of local brews – many of which are considered among the best in Oz. Better still, they’re created by artisans who not only love a good drop of amber (or dark!) fluid but are also passionate about their work and keen to share stories of their creative journey.
Kick back over a leisurely afternoon or night and savour seasonal beers, new concoctions and firm favourites while perusing menus of share plates, light meals, bar snacks and burgers.

No designated driver? Maybe take advantage of the half or full-day Sunshine Coast Craft Beer Tours that pack an expert tour guide, beer samples and ice-cold bottled water on board the air-conditioned buses while calling in to a variety of top-notch coastal and hinterland venues. Here’s cheers to a few:

Eumundi Brewery(Memorial Drive, Eumundi)

Head brewer Chris Sheehan and his 2IC Allan Tilden revived the much-loved Eumundi Lager brand, first crafted in 1988, after rebuilding the brewery on-site at the Imperial Hotel’s majestic old Queenslander. Try a Refreshing Lager, Pale Ale or Alcoholic Ginger Beer as part of its core range. Why not book a 15-20 minute Eumundi Brewery Tour and Taste for some history, a little brewing and one of the freshest beers you'll ever drink for free.

Heads of Noosa Brewing Co (Rene Street, Noosaville)

This independent, family-owned business produces and packages 100% of its beer on-site at a purpose-built brewery in the heart of Noosa. The beers are Noosa all over, bottling the flavours, sights, sounds and colours of the area. The Heads of Noosa passion lies in making the most of humble lagers such as the India Pale Lager: a modern style with a hop-forward character and bigger body than most lagers. And nothing goes down better in the heat than Summer Dusk: refreshing and full-flavoured, boasting specialty dark malts balanced by tropical fruit hop flavours and aromas.

Terella Brewing (Bunya Road, North Arm)

Terella Brewing is the new sustainable farm-style brewery in North Arm. It pays homage to traditional German methods that create a creamy, frothy head and full-flavoured but well-balanced beer. The brewery offers 14 taps on-site, nine of which are ever-changing – a mixture of seasonal and collaboration brews. For a family-friendly atmosphere, Terella has installed a petting farm with goats, pigs, chickens, sheep, ducks and miniature horses.

Land and Sea (Venture Drive, Noosaville)

The lifestyle and natural environment inspire Land and Sea’s popular range of ales, IPAs and lagers. Book a brewery tour to learn about the process and the history behind the drink, with a free schooner on arrival and tastings throughout.
