If you're coming to the Sunshine Coast by air, the Sunshine Coast Airport is just 30 km north of Caloundra. Transport options at the airport include car rentals, public buses, private transport and shuttles.
The airport is convenient to the Sunshine Motorway. The National Highway M1 runs north-south, approximately 30 km inland and parallel to the Sunshine Motorway. Both allow easy access to favourite attractions, parks, and beaches.
Starting in the south at Caloundra, the beaches down there are among the Sunshine Coast's favourites. Spend an afternoon in the surf at King's Beach. Bulcock Beach has a newly restored boardwalk and offers both kitesurfing and windsurfing.
Other water activities include fishing, scuba diving, and sailing.
People also enjoy taking a cruise through one of several marine parks in the area, where you can view the varied wildlife and beautiful scenery. Visitors remark at the extraordinary bird watching opportunities.
Take a leisurely walk along the Sunshine Coastal Pathway, which stretches from Caloundra north to Tewantin at Noosa Heads. The 9 km portion at Caloundra passes by beaches, a lighthouse, lakes, and creeks, giving a scenic view of several environmental zones. Visitors can walk or cycle on the path.
If you are there on Sunday, be sure to check out the Caloundra Farmer's Market for local fresh vegetables, seafood and flowers. The Sunday Bulcock Street Markets offer local crafts, outdoor dining and more.
Just a few kilometres up the road in Yandina in the central area of the Sunshine Coast is the Ginger Factory, where the entire family can enjoy rides, tour the factory, stroll through the extensive gardens, help beekeepers extract honey and shop for scrumptious ginger products.
Just opposite the Ginger Factory is Nutworks and the Chocolate Factory. Guests can tour the factory and taste the delectable macadamia and chocolate treats made there. The factory gives tours and has a retail store full of freshly made products.
Adjacent to these two attractions is Mapleton Forest Reserve, where visitors can experience the hinterland forests with great views of the coast.
Day users can see waterfalls and walk through deep forests, wetlands and palm groves. Pack a lunch and enjoy the sounds, sights, and scents of nature during your picnic.
Emundi, a hinterland village not far from Yandina, is famous for its markets. Each Saturday and Wednesday, the small village is transformed into one of the largest outdoor markets in Queensland.
More than 600 stalls offer homemade foods, organic fruits and vegetables, live entertainment, face painting and artwork by local craftspeople. Jewelry, clothing, furniture and toys are some of the items on offer. The market also sponsors a number of community events throughout the year.
Today, stay closer to home at Coolum Beach. Coolum is one of the best-known areas for surfing and water activities. Coolum is also home to a professional golf course. The Coolum Surf Club gives surfing lessons from beginner to advanced.
Nearby Mount Coolum is a favourite hiking area. Many hikers enjoy seeing the sun rise from the top of this remnant volcanic dome. Day hikers can take their time climbing up the natural steps to the top. The trail goes through ecological zones that include tropical forest, wetlands, and scrub inhabited by rare, native species.
North of Coolum lies Noosa Heads. The headlands form the northern extreme of Noosa National Park. Easy trails through the park let hikers of any ability enjoy the journey through rainforests, saltwater marshes and the coastline. Koalas are often observed in the trees.
Most visitors make their way to Hastings Street, home to boutiques and a myriad of popular restaurants. It is also the starting place for tours to Fraser Island, a World Heritage Site, and Rainbow Beach.

Peregian Markets(Kingfisher Drive, Peregian Beach)
You can experience it all at Peregian Markets. Well known for the variety of art, craft, up cycled, recycled, created, designed, manufactured, handmade, home grown, organic and fair trade. This is a great place to pick up a gift or new outfit, enjoy a relaxing massage and stock your fridge and pantry. Spend the morning browsing the stalls; enjoy the ’buskers’, have a swim, walk the beach and soaking up the atmosphere!
Peregian Markets is the place to be on every 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 7am – 12.30pm.
Eumundi Original Markets (Memorial Dr, Eumundi): These markets are billed as “Australia’s premier artisan markets”, open on Saturdays (7am-2pm) and Wednesdays (8am-2pm). “Make it, bake it, sew it, grow it” is the stallholders’ catchcry. Original artworks, sculptures, furniture, handmade toys, homewares, skincare, fashion and jewellery, fresh fruit and vegetables, breads, cheeses and yogurts are among the wares on offer in the leafy space where live music wafts on the breeze.
Yandina Markets (North St, Yandina): Vintage and retro fashion, pre-loved/recycled goods and trash-and-treasure stalls join with a farmers’ market mix of garden plants, spices and fresh fruit and vegetables at these laid-back and colourful markets. Get in early (from 6am every Saturday) to snag the best bargains.
Fishermans Road Markets (corner of the David Low Way and Fishermans Rd, Maroochydore): Run by the Mooloolaba Lions Club volunteers, these markets boast second-hand bargains, vintage clothes, freshly-baked cakes and fresh fruit and vegetables from 6am to noon every Sunday, just opposite the Maroochy River and picnic areas.
Noosa Farmers Market (Noosa AFL Club, Weyba Rd, Noosaville): Indulge the senses with an array of organic and seasonal produce, marinades and sauces, skincare products, seafood, bread, cheeses, olives and tapenades, herbs, freshly caught seafood and great coffee at one of the Coast’s best-loved farmers’ markets every Sunday from 7am-noon.
Caloundra Street Fair (Bulcock St, Caloundra): The main street is closed off to traffic so market-goers can wander stalls at their leisure with a live music soundtrack. Locally made art and craft, homewares, street food, gourmet sweets, fresh produce, fashion and fun are on offer – surrounded by cafes, boutiques and specialty shops that lie only two blocks from Bulcock Beach – from 8am-1pm Sundays.
Marcoola Market (Lorraine Ave, Marcoola): Every Friday is family night in the park with takeaway stalls serving an international food fest of Turkish delights, dumplings, donuts, plant-based nourishment, paella, Japanese meals, German sausages, burgers, Mexican food, Latin street food, spring rolls and French crepes from 4-8pm. The Marcoola Farmers’ Market takes over the area every Saturday from 8am with fresh organic fruit and veg, meat, bread, olives and the unusual bone broth honey.

Ricky's River Bar and Restaurant, Noosa Heads: Located right on the Noosa River in Quamby Place, Ricky’s epitomises the area’s relaxed, chic lifestyle. This is the place to go to watch the sunset over cocktails before a romantic dinner (perhaps the six-course tasting menu showcasing local produce with matching wines).
Fisk on Parkyn, Mooloolaba: A favourite with residents and tourists over the past 15 years, Fish On Parkyn is committed to giving local, seasonal seafood – brought in daily from wharves only seconds away – the spotlight it deserves within the menus.
Terrace of Maleny: This family-run business has been operating since 1992, offering panoramas filled with mountains, valleys and coastline. Seafood is its specialty – from chowder to hot and cold platters and its signature dish: whole crispy wok-fried reef fish.
Rick's Garage, Palmwoods: Let’s take it down a notch to the atmosphere of a backyard Aussie barbecue with burgers too big to hold, rockabilly music, hot rods and pin-up dresses. Rick’s has become an institution on the Coast for its hearty meals and vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere in this much-loved country town. And don’t forget the Whiskey Bar (that used to be the mechanic’s house) with more than 170 premium spirits and an extensive cocktail menu.
Locale Noosa: It may be located in the “French Quarter” of Hastings St but this popular venue with a lively atmosphere emphasises authentic Italian tradition but with a modern approach, using the best of local seasonal produce and imported ingredients.
Harry's on Buderim, On the Edge of Buderim Forest Park: Stuart Bell brings 30 years’ experience as a chef to his modern Australian cuisine served in a 140-year-old, heritage-style homestead with a veranda giving diners stunning views of the rainforest.

A short stroll down the Coolum boardwalk brings you to Coolum's renowned white sandy beach and the local village. Here you can take a surfing lesson or just kick back, relax and enjoy the beach. Go boutique shopping on David Low Way and sip a coffee at one of Coolum's cafes. In the summer holidays, check out the Coolum Twilight Markets, which offers everything from new and handmade clothing to local jewellery, arts and crafts. Aqua Fun Park Coolum is an exciting aquatic play area with activities suitable for children as young as six.
If you're an active, outdoorsy type and don't mind an adventure with a terrific view, you can climb Mt. Coolum. It takes about 45 minutes to trek to the summit of this mountain, but once you get there, the views will make it more than worth your while. There are 360-degree views of the Sunshine Coast that include everything from the ocean to rolling hills.

We've joined up to help make Coolum a plastic free community. That's why from November we will be partnering with the team at Containers for Change and CoEx to have specific recycling bins for deposit containers.
Did you know that at present only 4% of plastics placed in yellow bins are recycled? This rises to almost 80% when containers are placed in CFC recycling bins. Even better, deposit refunds recovered under this program will be re-invested in our reforestation program. Could a cheeky wine actually help us save the planet?!
So the more deposit containers you place in our recycled container bins the more we can invest in rejuvenating our local environment. Talk about sustainable sustainability!
