The best walking tracks in Coolum

Coolum is generally known for its surf beaches, small coastal village vibe and holiday weather all year round. It's also filled with walking tracks that highlight the area's natural beauty, coastal waters, exotic plants and dramatic landscape.

If you stay at The Point Coolum Beach, you don't have to go far to find a pleasant walking track. You can climb Mount Coolum or meander leisurely on the boardwalk along Coolum Beach. Here are a few tracks that are fun and interesting.

The Coolum Boardwalk

Coolum Boardwalk follows the cliffs above the ocean from Point Perry into the village of Coolum Beach. It is a leisurely walk, suitable for all categories of walkers. From Point Perry, enjoy views of First Bay to the south and Noosa to the north.

A community effort of local organisations, local councils and private citizens worked together to create this scenic trail through Coolum.

Care was taken to respect the environment and incorporate trees and other natural features into the path. The boardwalk is lit at night so visitors can walk, sit and enjoy the sounds of the surf, fresh ocean air and spectacular views both day and night.

Mount Coolum

No visit to Coolum is complete without walking the Mount Coolum Track. The ascent to the summit is a bit challenging but hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the Sunshine Coast, the village of Coolum and the hinterlands.

The path crosses through several ecosystems of rare plants, is home to peregrine falcons and goes through the transitions from open forest to woodlands, shrublands and montane heath. The summit of this national park is 208 metres above sea level. The path is 800 metres one way or 1.6 km up and back. The hike takes about two hours.

Sunshine Coastal Pathway

Stretching from Tewantin north of Noosa Heads south to Bell's Creek near Caloundra, the 96-km Coastal Pathway is a great place to walk, jog or cycle. The pathway is divided into 11 sections, with part of the Coolum section passing just outside the grounds of our hotel.

The stretch that goes through Coolum starts at Peregian Beach and parallels the coastline along the cliffs above Point Perry, First Bay, Second Bay and Third Bay. From Peregian Beach to Point Perry is approximately 7 km.

The trail then continues to Point Arkwright, Yaroomba and passes at the base of Mount Coolum. Visitors can walk through fragile coastal ecosystems, enjoy native plants and flowers, experience breathtaking views of the ocean and stop for whale watching when the season is right. The path also provides access to popular community and recreation facilities in Coolum.

The Point Coolum Beach

The Point Coolum Beach resort sits atop the cliffside above the bays of Coolum. The one, two and three-bedroom Villas feature private balconies with ocean views just a few metres from Third Bay. Stroll down to the beach, relax at the pool or take a walk along one of the many scenic tracks that are part of the Sunshine Coast experience. Hotel staff can arrange day treks and outings.
