When visiting Coolum as a family it is important that everyone is able to relax and unwind. In Coolum, we love to share our local secrets and we have suggestions to suit every member of the family.

Activities for the whole family:

Surfing lessons with Coolum Surf School

Teach the whole family to love the ocean and learn a new skill with surfing lessons from Coolum Surf School. Lessons start from as young as 6 years old so why not sign up the whole family or just the kids for a group or private lesson. Lessons are available all year round and all you need is your swimmers and a towel, everything else is provided by the surf school.

Blast Aqua Park

Coolum has the Sunshine Coast’s funniest Aqua Park and it is a perfect place to allow the kids to let off some steam. With water slides, trampolines, climbing walls, rope swings and much more this is a fantastic family-friendly activity. Kids of all ages are welcome but those under 6 must be accompanied by an adult. Out of the water, there are free BBQ areas, a shaded area, a cafe and changing rooms.

Coolum Creature Trail

Want to get some fresh air and get your legs moving? Download the Coolum Kids Creature Trail map and explore Coolum on foot while looking for the local animals that call Coolum home. Skateboarding

Coolum has a shaded skate park located in Tickle Park, right next to Coolum’s main beach. If you want to take your skateboarding inside why not head to Chiggy’s skateboarding to experience the Sunshine Coast’s only indoor skate ramps.

Flicks in the Park

During the school holidays, Coolum has a pop-up outdoor cinema located in Tickle Park, right next to the main beach and the Coolum Surf Club. Bring a rug and enjoy a family-friendly movie under the stars. With live music and face painting available before the movie, these are events not to be missed. Emu Mountain

If you want to take the whole family up a beginner-friendly hike then look no further than Emu Mountain. The trail starts at Coolum High School and takes 20 mins to reach the summit. The 360-degree views of the ocean and the hinterland are worth every step. This is the perfect first hike for little explorers.

Arcade Box Coolum

Arcade Box is the only place on the entire Sunshine Coast where you will find a great selection of classic and retro video games to play alongside a skateboard shop dedicated to bringing you the classic boards from iconic brands. Located across the road from Coolum’s skate park it is open from 10 am - 9 pm on weekends and entry is free. This is a perfect all-weather indoor activity.

Terella Brewing - Petting Zoo and Brewery

Terella Brewing is located just outside of the country town of Yandina and is only 20 mins inland from Coolum. This local brewery not only features delicious craft beer and food trucks but it also features farm animals. All of the animals are rescues and it features goats, pigs, chickens, sheep, ducks, guinea pigs and even miniature horses.

Ginger Factory

While you are visiting Yandina the iconic Ginger Factory is a must-see. It offers fun rides, fascinating tours, a kids play area, ice creamery, the ginger train and a live bee show. The Ginger Factory has free entry and is open seven days a week.

SeaLife Mooloolaba

No trip to the Sunshine Coast is complete without visiting the SeaLife Aquarium. This is a perfect all-weather attraction and is located only 20 mins south of Coolum. Situated right at The Wharf in Mooloolaba it is home to thousands of marine and freshwater animals – including sharks, crocodiles, seals, turtles, stingrays, tropical fish and more.

Explore 11 fun and interactive animal zones – across three levels, including the tidal touch pool, seahorse sanctuary, jellyfish kingdom and take a look at our brand new Jawsome Sharks in the 80m Ocean Tunnel.

No trip to a beach town is complete without visiting the local surf club right? The Coolum Surf Club has outdoor dining the overlooks the main beach and this might be the best dinner view in all of Coolum. Kids can enjoy a free activity pack to keep them occupied during dinner.

Coolum Beach Hotel

The local hotel features a huge indoor playground that keeps the kids entertained. Parents can relax knowing that their kids are playing in a safe environment. With a specific kids menu, there will be something that everyone will enjoy.
